sample daily schedule
Our schedule varies slightly from day to day, but here is an example of our daily life!
Journal Writing/Bell Work (Arrival until 8:15am)
This is the time to get organized and ready for the day. First, say "Good Morning" to everyone and put your bag and/or coat away. Homework folders need to be placed in my inbox. Second, take out your Bell Work Notebook and a pencil. Bell Work will be written on the front board for you to complete. If you complete your work before time is up, you can quietly read a book. Announcements are also made during this time, so please listen up!
Reading/Language Arts (8:15am - 8:35 am)
During Circle Time, we will go over the calendar, say the Pledge of Allegiance, discuss our plan for the day, and read a book that goes with our theme for the week. We will also graph answers to questions about the theme. During the first couple of weeks of school, this is when we will go over and model our rules and procedures.
Reading and Center Time (8:35 am - 9:55 am)
At this time, I will work with the different reading groups. Reading groups will be required to bring their Reading Notebook and pencil with them to the reading table. While I am working with small groups, the other children will be in Literacy Arts Centers and Math Centers. Each center will have multiple activities for the children to work on. Work will be shown in their Literacy Arts and Math Notebooks for my review. This is also a place where students can leave me a note if they are having trouble understanding a concept. Notebooks will be reviewed during my planning time and in the evening, so I can get back to the student by the next day.
Specials (9:55 am - 10:40 am)
During normal days, we will have one of the following Specials: Art, PE, Music, Computer, and Library.
Writing and Spelling (10:40 am - 11:05 am)
Spelling words will be passed out on Mondays with an activity that helps students start to learn the words. Each day we will work on our words and examples of how these words are used in everyday conversation. Tests will be on Friday mornings. Writing Notebooks will be used for these activities as well journaling when the activities are complete.
Clean-Up, Wash Hands, and Transition (11:05 am - 11:15 am)
Students will put away all work and get ready for lunch by cleaning up any paper, pushing in chairs, and lining up by the door. We will stop by the bathroom on the way to the cafeteria to wash hands prior to eating.
Lunch and Recess (11:15 am - 12:15 pm)
Bathroom and Transition Time (12:15 pm - 12:30 pm)
We will take this opportunity to come in from the playground and go to the bathroom and get a drink of water before heading back to the classroom for our afternoon of learning. At this time, students will get out their math book, notebook, and pencil.
Math (12:30 pm - 1:30 pm)
Math lessons will be taught covering the concepts that the students are learning. Students will work on an assignment at their desk then move to different Math Centers to reinforce the concepts through hands-on activities. Each center will have a reporting sheet that the students will complete showing their work. During this time, I will work with individual students that may be having trouble understanding a concept.
Science and/or Social Studies (1:30 pm - 2:30 pm)
Students will need their Scientific Journal, Historical Journal, and a pencil.
End of Day (2:30 pm - Dismissal)
Students will clean up their desk, put their chairs on the desk, gather their backpacks, homework folders, and clean up any trash. All pencils need to be checked and sharpened during this time for the next day. Once complete, students will have seat on the carpet until dismissal. During this time, we will discuss the day and review any questions the students might have.
